My name is Joseph Donovan, and I am a multidisciplinary experience designer living in Boston, Massachusetts.
My appreciation for design arose from observing how, like in music or language, humans use structure and form as an attempt to actively apply meaning to the world around them. I try to foster such an understanding of both the technical and creative faculties required for detailed, meaningful, accessible design work.
The current field of design in which I work is heavily reliant on interoperability between disciplines, and I have had the opportunity to collaborate with developers, architects, engineers, product owners, and other design disciplines in the creation of multi-modal digital and physical experiences for commercial aviation, AEC, robotics control & programming platforms, educational institutions, museums, corporate clients, and internal R&D projects. This has required, mostly through self-teaching and absorbing knowledge from the industry professionals I’ve worked alongside, learning industry-standard software tools and methodologies, a process which has made me open and absorbent to learning new things quickly and with attention to detail. With these skills comes the responsibility to create meaningful, accessible design, which has and will always be the ultimate priority in my work.
